Introduction
- Pinnacle of Taiwanese fire fans, K-POP in contemporary fire dance -
Pineapple Tetrapod aim to embody the unique characteristics of Taiwan’s modern artistry, as well as contemporary Korean cultural and artistic creativity, through fire fans performance. As pioneers, Pineapple Tetrapod is Taiwan’s inaugural dance troupe to centered on tech fan juggling, and also the first in Taiwan to incorporate Korean pop dance styles into fire dance choreography.
The dance troupe was founded in 2019 and was named for its original members, all of whom either hailed from Taichung or were members of the CCU Fire Dance Club. Currently led by founder and artistic director YiHsuan Chen, and an original member JihYi Wang as acting leader, the group brings together outstanding dance and performing artists from across Taiwan. Together, they create works that break through the conventional frameworks of fire fan performance and traditional Taiwanese fire dance, while also organizing large-scale online and offline events centered around the art of the fire fan.
Since inception, the dance troupe achieved numerous accolades in national fire dance competitions in Taiwan. In the 2019 Taiwan Fire Soul X, a triumphant third place in the individual category with 〈 Mazu told me to slide 〉, and also clinching fourth in the group category with 〈 ST★RLIGHT 〉. The following year, as the torches of the 2020 Taiwan Fire Open Competition ignited, 〈 I GOT 1 〉 blazed a trail to yet another illustrious third-place finish.
